There are alot of false religions out there, some even going under the disguise of Christianity. But the core of all systems of belief ,I believe anyway, is who they believe Jesus is. Some say He was only a good teacher, some say He was only a prophet, but the Bible says He was much more and here i want to share that the Bible shows who Jesus Truly is. Jesus Christ is The Lord God Almighty.
Attributes of God and Jesus
*note-in the Old Testament the word LORD is translated from JEHOVAH (a name for God) i have inserted the word Jehovah in some of these verses encased in brackets to show the original word.
1.Savior-
-God is the ONLY Savior
Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD[JEHOVAH] ; AND BESIDE ME THERE IS NO SAVIOUR.(emphasis mine)
-Jesus is the Savior
John 4:42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.In this cross-reference of OT and NT verses we see that JEHOVAH is the ONLY saviour. He says BESIDE ME THERE IS NO SAVIOUR. Yet we see in the NT that Jesus IS OUR SAVIOUR. Jesus is Jehovah!
2.Creator
-God Created the universe BY HIMSELF
Isaiah 44:24 saith the LORD[JEHOVAH] , thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myselfGenesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.-Jesus Created the universe
Hebrews 1:8,10 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom./And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: John1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Here we see that God created all “BY MYSELF” Isaiah 44:24. But we see that Jesus also Created all. Some cultists like Jehovah Witnesses and others will say that Jesus was created first and then God created everything else through Jesus. But this is not possible because in Isaiah 44:24 God makes it clear that He did it “BY MYSELF” not through a created being.
3. The Word-
-God is the Word
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. -Jesus is The Word
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. This is one of the most popular and obvious references of Jesus being God. Jesus is the Word. The Word is God. Jesus is God.
4. Redeemer-
-God is our Redeemer
Isaiah 47:4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. -Jesus is our Redeemer/
Titus 2:13-14 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Here we see that JEHOVAH is the redeemer. Yet in Titus it says that Jesus is the one who redeems us. Jesus is Jehovah!
5. Glorified-
-God alone is worthy of Glory and will not give it to another.
Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD[JEHOVAH] : that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. -Jesus shares that Glory that God said He would not give to another-
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. The only way Jesus could have something God will not give to another is if Jesus is in fact God. For we know that God does not lie. So God did not lie when He said “my glory will I not give to
another”. Yet Jesus shared that Glory. Jesus is Jehovah.
6. Receiver of worship.
-God is the ONLY One who should be worshipped.
Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.-Jesus openly receives worship.
Matthew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.Matthew 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.Matthew 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.Notice Jesus never rebukes anyone for worshipping Him. If He were not God He would recognize the command in the Law to worship no one but God and He would have quickly corrected those who worshipped Him. Had He been only a man and not also God in the flesh then this would mean Jesus would have sinned by allowing people to openly worship Him in disregard of the Law to worship God only. In other words if you don’t believe Jesus is God then you actually are believing Jesus is a sinner whether you realize it or not. We are commanded in the NT not to put a “stumbling block” in the way of our brothers
Romans 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.In the context of these verses stumbling block refers to causing someone else to sin. Therefore had Jesus not been God and allowed people to worship Him after God had commanded in Exodus to worship God alone then Jesus would have actually been sinning by causing others to sin in worshipping someone other than God. Yet we know according to the Word He did not sin at all
1 Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Jesus openly received this worship without rebuking anyone for it because Jesus is in fact God.
7. Gives salvation to those who call upon His Name
-This is attributed to God in the OT book of Joel.
Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD[JEHOVAH] shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD[JEHOVAH] hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD[JEHOVAH] shall call.
Paul attributes this to Jesus
Romans 10:9,13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Here we see a prophecy by Joel that there will be a time when “whosever shall call on the name of JEHOVAH shall be delivered” Paul quotes this in Romans 10:13. What name is Paul referring to? Jesus. Who does Joel say we must call on to be delivered? JEHOVAH. Jesus is Jehovah.
8. The First and The Last.
-God is the First and the Last
Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD[JEHOVAH] the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD[JEHOVAH] of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. -Jesus claims to be the First and the Last
Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Here we see that JEHOVAH is the First and the Last. We also see that Jesus makes the claim to be the First and the Last. If Jesus was created by JEHOVAH then Jesus could not be the First as JEHOVAH would have preceded Him. Jesus is JEHOVAH.
9.John the Baptist prepared His Way.
-Him that crieth in the wilderness prepared the way for God
Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD[JEHOVAH], make straight in the desert a highway for our God. -John the Baptist was the one crying in the wilderness to prepare the way for Jesus/
John 1:23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. In Isaiah we see that “the voice of him that crieth in the wilderness” will Prepare the way for JEHOVAH and make straight a highway for our God. John the Baptist makes it clear that he is the voice crying in the wilderness. John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Jesus. Jesus is JEHOVAH.
10. There is one shepherd.
John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
-God is that Shepherd.
Psalms 23:1 The LORD[JEHOVAH] is my shepherd; I shall not want.
-Jesus is the Shepherd.
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.According to Jesus there shall be one fold and one Shepherd. Psalm 23 says that JEHOVAH is that Shepherd. Yet in John Jesus claims to be the Shepherd. Jesus is JEHOVAH.
11. Gave His Life for us.
-God Gave His Life for us
1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. -Jesus Gave His Life for us
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Jesus came to give His life for us as a sacrifice. In 1 John it says that God laid down His life for us. Jesus is God.
12.Raised Jesus from the dead.
-God raised Jesus/
Acts 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. -Jesus raised Himself from the dead
John 10:17-18 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.We all know that Jesus lived, died, and was raised from the dead. But who raised Him? According to Acts 4:10 God raised Him from the dead. But Jesus himself said He would raise up His body in three days in John 2:19. He also states in John 10:17-18 That He has the power to lay down His Life and to Take It again.
13.Good
-God alone is Good
Mark 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. -Jesus calls Himself GoodJohn 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. A Few Other Verses Showing Christ as God.
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word John 8:43/ Here we see Jesus telling the Jews they cannot hear his word/
He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. John 8:47/ just a few verses later we see Jesus saying that those words are GODS words. Yet Jesus is the one speaking the words. Jesus is God.
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16/ This verse alone shows that God manifest Himself in the flesh through the Son Jesus. We see at the end of the verse that He was received up into glory. Jesus was the One who ascended up into glory. Yet here it says God was received up into glory. Jesus is God
But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Hebrews 1:8 / Here is a clear example of the Father calling the Son God. Some will say that this should be “little g” god. That Jesus was a “lesser god”.
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. Isaiah 43:10/ Here we see that this is not possible for there was no God formed before or after the LORD[Jehovah] (Note that the word for God here in the Hebrew is EL, the same name given to Jesus in Isaiah 9:6..therefore Jesus could not have been formed before or after JEHOVAH, Jesus must be eternally existant as JEHOVAH is, Jesus is JEHOVAH)
I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. John 10:30-33/Here we see that Jesus claims to be One with the Father. Some will try to say that this merely means One in purpose or will but not One in Unity of Being. But notice that the Jews here attempted to stone Him because they recognized this as His claim to be God. Jesus does not correct them and say He isn’t God. Why? Because Jesus is God!!
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: Philippians 2:5-6/Here Paul tells us that Jesus is in the form of God and equal with God. Who can be equal with God? Only God.
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 1 John 5:7 This verse alone should clear up any doubts about the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit being One. Interestingly enough some modern translations of the Bible have this verse taken out. This is because some Greek manuscripts do not contain this and some in fact do not contain the whole of 1 John. It is also interesting to note that there is evidence of this verse being quoted by Christian Authors (Tertullian) as early as 200 A.D. This is within around a century of the writing of this epistle.
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16 Here it is clear who laid down His life for us. God laid down His life for us.
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Acts 7:59 Here we see Stephen calling upon God. What does he say to God? He says LORD JESUS RECEIVE MY SPIRIT!!! Stephen calls God Jesus because he recognized that Jesus is GOD!!!
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 Here we see Jesus being called the mighty God. The word for God in the Hebrew here is El. Note that in Isaiah 43:10 the LORD says that there was no El formed before or after Him. This alone is enough to show that Jesus is eternal and is in fact the LORD GOD
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God. John 20:28 Here Thomas recognizes Jesus as his Lord and his God. Jesus does not rebuke him for this but actually confirms it in the next verse/
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. John 20:29/ He tells Thomas he believed because he saw and says that those who have not seen and yet have believed are blessed. Jesus is confirming that Thomas saw Him and believes that He is his God.
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9 Here is a clear description of Jesus “ the fullness of the Godhead bodily” or physically. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, God the Son, Equal and One with God the Father.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. John 14:7-11/ Here we see Jesus claim that “if ye had known me ye should have known my Father also” and “he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father”. He says that “I am in the Father, and the Father in me” Here it is obvious that not only is the Father in Jesus but notice also that Jesus is in the Father. We would assume of course that if Jesus was just a man that the Father could indwell Him as He indwells us when we believe. But there is no way that Jesus could be “in the Father” unless of course Jesus and the Father are One.
